Information We Do NOT Collect

Article Summarizer does not collect any of the following:

• Personal identification information (name, email, address, etc.)
• Browsing history or website visit data
• Article content or text that you summarize
• Cookies or tracking data
• Location information
• Financial or payment details

Local Data Storage

The extension stores the following information locally on your device only:

• Credit Balance: A numerical count of your remaining credits
• Payment Session Data: Temporary verification tokens for credit purchases
• User Preferences: Your selected summary length settings

This data never leaves your device and is only used to operate the extension functionality.

Payment Processing

When you purchase credits:

• Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe, a secure third-party payment processor
• We do not see or store your payment card information
• Only a session verification token is temporarily stored to confirm successful payments

Content Processing

When you summarize an article:

• Text extraction and summarization happens entirely on your device
• Article content is processed locally using client-side algorithms
• No article text or content is sent to our servers
• Generated summaries are not stored or transmitted anywhere

Permissions Explained

The extension requests these permissions for the following purposes:

• activeTab: To read article content from the current webpage when you click "Summarize"
• storage: To save your credit balance and preferences locally
• scripting: To inject content extraction scripts into webpages
• downloads: To save summary files to your device when you click "Download"
• host permissions: To work on any website for universal article summarization

Third-Party Services

The extension uses these third-party services:

• Stripe: For secure payment processing (covered by Stripe's privacy policy)
• Railway: For hosting the payment backend (no user data stored)

Data Security

Since we don't collect personal data, there's minimal security risk. The small amount of local data (credit counts) is stored using Chrome's secure extension storage API.
